Pond Memories

My inlaws home in Nantucket, lovingly named Pond Memories, is truly divine. It has a sweeping backyard, gorgeous gardens, and a sweet breeze that blows through every room. My mother-in-law loves this island with absolute conviction. She and my father-in-law started coming to Nantucket before my husband was born, and they've truly grown as a couple and as a family with this beautiful island. First they were renters with a big dream of one day owning a property of their own, then they bought a home in Madaket that they would rent out for part of the summer to help pay for the dream house, and after some time, they finally made it to the picturesque and stately home they occupy every year from May - October. My mother-in-law has always professed that no matter how big or small the houses along the way have been, she's loved every single minute on this island.

As I write, I'm listening to the waves crash on a sandy beach known as Sheep's Head. I just ate a sandwich with salty Cape Cod chips, and I've got a red solo cup filled with white wine in hand. My kids are playing in the sun, the husband is reading a book beside me, and I'm coming up with a plan to convince him to buy me a house on Nantucket.
