How Do You Like Your Brisket?

Monday, August 13, 2012

My husband and I may come from wildly different backgrounds, but one thing we do have in common is a mutual love of brisket. My mother-in-law serves her brisket most often with carrots and potatoes and bakes it all in the oven (as do most Jews) - but my people would never hear of this. We Texans smoke our brisket and serve it with white bread and BBQ sauce. Although I swear by the Southern style since I've been eating my brisket that way since I was a kid, I was blown away by how juicy and delicious the Jewish method was. There are hundreds of ways to make brisket - I guess it just never occurred to me to make it any other way since smokey sweet was really the only way Texans eat the stuff. I love that my husband and I can teach each other new ways to do the same old thing (even if his way isn't any BETTER, don't get me wrong, brisket smothered in BBQ sauce is damn near impossible to beat)!
